The Archdiocesan Chancery |
|
The Archdiocesan Chancery is currently located in a small office suite located behind the Archdiocesan Cathedral in Utica, NY. Future plans call for relocating the Chancery Office to a separate building located down the street from the Cathedral and which is being donated to the Archdiocese. The small Victorian-style house, which will serve as the new Chancery Office, while providing more office space, will be a small functioning entity that will not impose any additional financial burden upon the Archdiocese. The Chancery Office is occupied by a small core staff which will include, when fully staffed, the Metropolitan, the Chief Operating Officer, the Chief Financial Officer, the Chancellor, the Prefect of the Metropolitan Dicastery, the Archdiocesan Archivist and the Archdiocesan Registrar and Notary, along with a small support staff. The Chancery is responsible for the drawing up and issuing of all documents and official acts in the name of the Metropolitan and on his behalf. Within the Chancery is kept the Metropolitan's official seal. The day-to-day work of the Chancery covers a wide area. This would normally include: · Preparation and dispatching of marriage documents to Dioceses all over the world. This often involves contact with other dioceses by telephone, email and fax. · Preparation of decrees granting permissions for marriages which involve a permission or a dispensation. · Receives and processes applications from clergy of other Orthodox Churches who wish to enter into the canonical jurisdiction of the Italo-Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of the Americas and Canada. · Maintains a registry of all clergy of the Archdiocese as well as monastics male and female and all seminarians. · Issuing of permissions to receive adults into full Communion with the Orthodox Church. · Granting of diocesan faculties for priests and deacons who minister in the Archdiocese. · All administrative acts which require the mandate of the Archbishop. The Chancery is also responsible for notification to all priests in the diocese upon the death of a priest. |
