The Consistory

The Consistory is an administrative operational organ of the Archdiocese and is responsible for the daily supervision and administration of the Church.

 

The members of the Consistory shall include the Vicar-General, the Chancellor, the Vicar for Administration, the Vicar for Clergy and the Vicar for Canonical Affairs. Additional members shall include six other individuals; three from among the ranks of the clergy and three laypersons, all of whom shall be elected by the Provincial Council. The Metropolitan shall be an ex-officio member of the Consistory. The Vicar-General serves as the Prefect of the Consistory.

 

The Consistory:

 

1. Carries out the decisions of the Provincial Council, the Metropolitan Council, the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council, the Archdiocesan Finance Council, those of the Holy Synod of Bishops, and the orders and directives of the Metropolitan;

2. Prepares a draft of the annual Archdiocesan Chancery Office budget for review, approval and acceptance by the Archdiocesan Finance Council and Metropolitan Council;

3. Collects the Annual Archdiocesan Assessments and other revenues from all parishes and institutions of the Archdiocese and shall dispose of them in accordance with the budget and with the decisions of both the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council and Metropolitan Council;

4. Presents reports on the execution of the budget and on the management of Church property, and to prepare financial and economic reports for the Provincial Council;

5. Organizes and admits new parishes, missions and communities into the canonical jurisdiction of the Italo-Greek Orthodox Church in the Americas and Canada with the consent and blessing of the Metropolitan;

6. Upon decision of the Holy Eparchial Synod of Bishops, expels parishes, missions and communities that fail to comply with the provisions of this Constitution, who violate the Canons of the Church, or who promote or maintain heretical practices or beliefs;

7. Promotes the well-being and development of the life of the Church;

8. Applies sanctions as dictated by Canon Law and by the Constitution of the      Italo-Greek Orthodox Church in the Americas and Canada against priests, deacons and other clergy, lay persons and parishes for failure to comply with the decisions and orders of the Archdiocese,

9. Acts, upon direction of the Metropolitan Council, in the name of the Italo-Greek Orthodox Holy Metropolitan Archdiocese of the Americas and Canada in all courts of the United States of America, South America, Canada, Mexico and the U.S. Protectorates;

10. To deal with other matters foreseen by the Constitution of the Italo-Greek Orthodox Church in the Americas and Canada.
